BCA

The Board of Civil Authority (BCA) consists of the town Justices of the Peace, all Selectboard members and the Town Clerk.

Duties and Responsibilities 

  • Assist with the running of elections
  • Maintain the voter checklist
  • Participate in state district reapportionment
  • Hear and decide on tax assessment grievance appeals

 

BTA

The Board of Tax Abatement (BTA) is made up of all the BCA members plus the Town Treasurer.

Duties and Responsibilities

The board may abate in whole or part taxes, water charges, sewer charges, interest, collection fees, or any other municipal charges or fees for utilities or services subject to criteria set forth in 24 V.S.A. § 1535

A majority of the board must be present for the board to meet, and a majority of that number must vote in favor of a motion to abate.
