Middletown Springs Schools

The towns of Middletown Springs and Wells currently operate as the Wells Springs Unified Union School District within the Greater Rutland County Supervisory Union. The two towns each have an elementary school Pre-K through grade 6. Secondary education options are outlined below under “Secondary Choice”.  The district is governed by elected School Directors, three from each town and one “at-large” candidate.

Secondary Choice

Middletown Springs students grades 7-12 attend the school of their choice.

The full cost of public middle and high school is covered within the Wells Springs School District budget.

For private, state approved schools a “state average” tuition is determined each year. This amount is paid directly to the receiving school by the Wells Springs School District. The student’s family is responsible for the balance of the tuition. Contacting the private school directly is the best way to find out what this amount is and whether there are scholarship monies available.

Vermont’s Town Tuitioning Program was launched in 1869, making it the oldest school choice program. The school voucher program provides educational options for students whose towns do not have public schools. The sending town pays school tuition directly to the “receiving” school, which can be any public or private, state approved school in or outside Vermont.

Wells Springs District Board

The Wells Springs District School Board meets monthly and oversees both the Middletown Springs Elementary School and the Wells Village School.
