WINTER SAND NOTICE

The Select Board apologizes for the tardiness of this note, but better late than never! There is a small pile of winter sand available for public use located near the south end of the metal entrance gate to the Transfer Station. This is for homeowners/taxpayer usage who might need a 5-gallon pail or two of sand for their steps, walkways, or whatever; n-o-t for commercial contractors.

We request that you use this sand rather than the ‘highway sand pile’ for safety considerations, both for your safety and that of our highway crew. Speaking of sand, the material being applied to our roadways is the same product that we have been using for several years. It is a manufactured sand material (from quarried stone), and much lighter in color so less visible on the roads than more conventional ‘sand’. The cold weather has been such that the roads have retained a thin coating of snow material much of the winter thus far; the underlying brown gravel base has been very reluctant to reveal itself due to very slow thawing processes.
